The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
