Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
