The companions of the thicket denied the messengers 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 178 "So fear Allah and obey me. 179 my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure, do not be among the cheats, 181 Weigh your goods with proper balance 182 and diminish not the goods of the people, and do not mischief in the earth, working corruption. 183 “And fear Him Who created you and the earlier creations.” 184 They said: You are only of those deluded; 185 you are only a mortal like us. Indeed we believe that you are an utter liar. 186 So cause a fragment of the sky to fall on us, if you are truthful." 187 He said, "My Lord has full knowledge of all your actions." 188 Then they branded him a liar, whereupon the chastisement of the Day of Canopy overtook them. It was the chastisement of a very awesome day. 189 Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 190 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 191
