The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near which is Paradise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
