Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibrael (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 Then he conceived a fear about them, and they said: 'Have no fear', and gave him the glad tidings that he was to have a knowledgeable son. 28 And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!" 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ 'Messengers' said he (Abraham), 'what is your errand' 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 That we may send upon them stones of clay, 33 which are marked by your Lord for the punishment of those guilty of excesses." 34 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 and left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 AND IN [the story of Pharaoh and] Moses, too, [We left the same message: for] when We sent him unto Pharaoh with [Our] manifest authority, 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy. 40 And in Aad. We let loose on them a withering wind 41 It did not leave aught on which it blew, but it made it like ashes. 42 There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. 43 But they disobeyed the command of their Lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape, 44 They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
