The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 Will pray for death, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
