Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
