Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
