Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill, 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 we are the rangers, 165 Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers). 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
