The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
