The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
