The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
