He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
