The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
