۞ Thy Lord has decreed you shall not serve any but Him, and to be good to parents, whether one or both of them attains old age with thee; say not to them 'Fie' neither chide them, but speak unto them words respectful, 23 Be humble and merciful towards them and say, "Lord, have mercy upon them as they cherished me in my childhood." 24 Your Lord is Well Aware of what is in your hearts; if you are worthy, then indeed He is Oft Forgiving for those who repent. 25 Give the relatives, the destitute and those who when on a journey have become needy, their dues. 26 Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Evil Ones; and the Evil One is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful. 27 And if thou [must] turn aside from those [that are in want, because thou thyself art] seeking to obtain thy Sustainer's grace and hoping for it, at least speak unto them with gentle speech. 28 (vi) Do not keep your hand fastened to your neck nor outspread it, altogether outspread, for you will be left sitting rebuked, destitute. 29 Your Lord increases and determines the sustenance of whomever He wants. He is Well Aware and watches over His servants. 30
