Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
