Nay, by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 a warning to humans, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 About the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
