The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
