The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
