Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
