The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the swollen sea 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
