NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
