The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
