Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
