The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
