Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A numerous company from among the first, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those on the left - how wretched are those on the left! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
