a large group of the earlier people 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
