The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
