Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness those who scatter by dispersing, 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 And those that flow with ease and gentleness; 3 by the angels which distribute the affairs, 4 What you are promised is certainly true: 5 And the judgment must most surely come about. 6 By the heaven with its passages, 7 your ideas are confused. 8 From which only he turns who is turned away. 9 They but destroy themselves, they who are given to guessing at what they cannot ascertain 10 who are heedless in the immersion. 11 asking, 'When shall be the Day of Doom?' 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire! 13 "Taste you your trial (burning)! This is what you used to ask to be hastened!" 14 The pious ones will live amidst gardens and springs, 15 Accepting the rewards given by their Lord; they were indeed virtuous before this. 16 Little of the night they were wont to slumber. 17 and asked for forgiveness in the early morning. 18 And the beggar and the destitute had a share in their wealth. 19 On the earth, and in yourselves, 20 And also in your own selves. Behold ye not? 21 And in the heaven is your provision, and that which you are promised. 22 Then, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is the truth (i.e. what has been promised to you), just as it is the truth that you can speak. 23
