Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
