The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
