The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And affirms goodness, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
