The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
