(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
