And indeed, We delivered the children of Israel from the shameful suffering 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 And We knowingly chose them, among all others of their time. 32 and sent them revelations of which some were a clear trial for them. 33 As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth: 34 "There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 Bring then our fathers if ye say so. 36 Are they better than the people of Tubba' and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin. 37 For [thus it is:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in mere idle play: 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Truly, the Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them, 40 The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
