The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 in which you are now living 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
