The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
