Al-Kahf 11 of 12
And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 We had given him great power in the land and all kinds of resources. 84 and so he chose the right means [in whatever he did]. 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water and near it he found some people. We said, "Dhu'l-Qarnayn! You can either punish them or else you can treat them with gentleness." 86 He said: "As for him (a disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah) who does wrong, we shall punish him; and then he will be brought back unto his Lord; Who will punish him with a terrible torment (Hell). 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 Then he followed a way 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 This indeed was true. We knew all that he did there. 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. 93 They said: "O thou Two-Horned One! Behold, Gog and Magog" are spoiling this land. May we, then, pay unto thee a tribute on the understanding that thou wilt erect a barrier between us and them?" 94 He replied: 'That which my Lord has given me is better, therefore help me with all your power, and I will build a barrier between you and between them. 95 “Give me sheets of iron”; until when he had raised the wall equal to the edge of the two mountains, he said, “Blow”; to the extent that he made it ablaze – he said, “Bring me molten copper to pour upon it.” 96 Therefore Yajuj and Majuj were neither able to surmount it, nor could they pierce it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ And We shall leave them on that day surging one against other and the trumpet shall be blown, and then We shall assemble them together. 99 And We will bring forth hell, exposed to view, on that day before the unbelievers. 100 Whose eyes were veiled against My warning, and they could not hear. 101

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
