The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Have they never thought to themselves that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between except with truth, and for a stated term? Yet most people disbelieve that they will ever meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
