Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
Almighty Allah's Truth.
