Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 and the burden-bearers 2 then the easy runners (the ships); 3 And the angels who distribute the affair. 4 Verily that wherewith ye are threatened is surely true. 5 The Judgement will indeed take place. 6 And by oath of the decorated heaven. 7 Verily ye are in a divided opinion. 8 Deluded away from the Qur'an is he who is deluded. 9 Perish will those who just guess and speculate, 10 they who blunder along, in ignorance lost 11 'When will the Day of Judgement be' they ask. 12 On that Day they shall be tried at the Fire, 13 Taste your persecution! this is what you would hasten on. 14 [But,] behold, the God-conscious will find themselves amid gardens and springs, 15 Receiving what is given them by their Lord. They were surely the virtuous before this. 16 They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night, 17 And in the dawns they prayed for forgiveness. 18 and [would assign] in all that they possessed a due share unto such as might ask [for help] and such as might suffer privation. 19 On the earth are signs for those of assured Faith, 20 There is also evidence of the Truth within your own selves. Will you then not see? 21 And in the heaven lies your sustenance, and the promise you are given. 22 So, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, this is certainly true, as true as the fact of your speaking. 23
