Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
