The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
