The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 By the House Frequented. 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
