A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
