The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
