The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
