A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
