The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
