۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
