The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
